The Department of Engineering Mathematics was established in the year 1980, under Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, College of Engineering. Since its inception, the Department has been functioning with the prime objective of developing a hub of excellence in Mathematical Sciences and Applications catering to the needs of Engineering students alone. However, in compliance with the vision and mission of GITAM, the Department of Applied Mathematics was started in the year 2003 and functioned under College of Science. On 17th July, 2019, the Department of Engineering Mathematics had been merged with the Department of Applied Mathematics of Institute of Science. At present, the Department of Mathematics runs its own Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral programmes, besides teaching various Mathematics courses to Undergraduates and Postgraduates of Engineering, Science, Architecture, Management, Pharmacy and Nursing Departments of the University.
The Department has Computational Lab, besides the state of art Library and Central Computing facilities of the University. The 32-member on board team are well qualified and are actively involved in research, consultancy and guiding students interested in pursuing a career in Mathematics. With expertise in various fields of Mathematics and Statistics, the faculty have published more than 700 research papers in reputed national and international peer reviewed journals and guided more than 30 students for their Doctoral degrees. To keep pace with the unprecedented changes, the department updates by introducing new courses, inter-disciplinary research and also helps the students for placements in industry and academia.
